Once the content creation is done, it is important to add topics and subtopics to your course. This will allow your course to be categorically arranged understandably and more easily. This will help the students access your course more quickly and provide an effective overview of the course just in one glance.
Adding topics and subtopics also helps to refine the search and enhance the recommendation notifications by the platform to the students.
Step-to-step guide to adding a Topic to your course
Step 1
In the first step, you need to go to the course page on the dashboard.
Step 2
In this step, you need to click on the course landing page mentioned on the left-hand side of the dashboard.
Step 3
Click on the Topics heading. This will guide you to the Topic section.
Step 4
Generally, the system will suggest an appropriate topic based on the title of your course. These suggestions are automatically generated; hence if you want to cancel any of the suggested topics you can click on the button and cancel it.
The new topics can be chosen by clicking on Choose a topic.
If no appropriate topic according to your choice is mentioned, it can be entered in Propose a New Topic.Â
Step 5
The added topics should be representative of your course title. Only one topic is sufficient to describe a course but if the instructor feels that multiple topics will do well to the course they can be added after checking the box showing Add multiple topics.
These added topics will be reviewed by the review team and hence will be approved by them. But this may delay the approval of your course.
 Step 6
To add the topic click Save at the bottom of the page.
Step 7
After saving the changes the team will review, the course title, the content of the course, and the topics selected after submission of your complete course content.
During the review, our team might add or delete some topics according to their expert suggestions but they will surely consider the topics suggested by the instructors.
FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q1. How to choose an appropriate topic? What are the factors to be considered?
While choosing an appropriate topic for your course, it is important to ponder over the actual content that has been taught in the course.
Your course should be representative of the primary subject in the course. If multiple topics are being chosen, every topic should describe categorically your course content without making it too broad to understand.
All the selected topics should be interlinked with each other as they are in the course. It is important to add topics that give the whole content a narrower approach rather than a broad and non-specific approach.
ExampleÂ
If the course title is Microsoft Office, the topics should include Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc., and not computer software.
Q2. How many maximum topics can be chosen for a course?
You can select a maximum of four topics for one course. However, it is essential to understand that the added topics should provide the course with a narrower approach.
It is not compulsory to add 4 topics. The added topics should be about the course content. The irrelevant topics might decrease the quality of your content and hence lead to poor search results and poor output from the student end.
Q3. What to do if a topic does not already exist in the database?
If the topic you want to add does not already exist in the database, you can post your new topic under the Propose new Topic section. This proposed topic will be reviewed by the review team and hence will be approved after careful consideration. These proposed topics should not be irrelevant and bulky to the course.
Guidelines for proposing a topicÂ
Some points to be kept in mind before proposing a new topic are-
No links or URLs should be added. The only text should be inserted.
The preferable language for proposing the topic is English. No native language should be used.Â
The topic and the name should be crisp and concise. Refrain from adding a sentence or paragraph while proposing a topic.
The proposed topic should apply to the principal topic of your course.
The proposed topic should not be a synonym of any existing topic in the database.
Additional proposed topics if suggested will furthermore delay the process of approval of your content, so be vigilant while proposing a topic. These topics will be included in the database after revaluation at specific periods.
Q4. Can the chosen topics be edited afterward?
After the selection of topics, they can be edited afterward as well. For that, the support team needs to be contacted.
For submission of new proposed topics, as stated above, the review team will first review your new suggestions and then approve them. After a successful review, the existing topics will be replaced by the new suggested topics.
Q5. Do private courses also have the option of adding a topic?
No. The private courses do not have the option of adding any topic to them, as all the topics listed are visible to the public.
